You can't stop spam But you can not be bothered by the junk on the web.

Do you want to fight spam (un-wanted email messages from people you do not want to know.

You can use the filtering section of your mail program to look for "Phrases" to kick spam into your trash bin before you have to open it.

Look for attention-grabbing phrases

Send messages with the most common appeals for attention--such as Make Money Fast and !!!--directly into the Trash. (Note: don't include $ in these filters, since Microsoft Exchange often uses this character as part of a sender ID. You could end up deleting real email from people with an Exchange account.) Most email filters work the same way, although the commands may be named differently. For example, here's how you'd set up a filter in Eudora Pro to transfer every single message with !!! in the subject header straight to the Trash:

example: Filter: if <<subject>> contains "!!!" Action: transfer to Trash

Spot the so-called authenticated sender Some spam contains a line that supposedly reveals the "authenticated sender," the address from which the spam was mailed. In fact, this line means absolutely nothing it's automatically inserted by Stealth Bomber and other mass email programs and can be easily faked. But some versions of Pegasus, a free email program, also insert an authenticated sender line. Here's how you can use the authenticated sender line to filter spam, while still receiving most of the legitimate messages sent by Pegasus users:

example: Filter: if <<any header>> contains "authenticated sender" UNLESS <<any header>> contains "X-Mailer Pegasus Mail" Action: transfer to Trash

ALSO LOOK FOR WORDS LIKE.... "if you sign up" "make a million dollars" " !!! " "X-Advertisement"

Note of caution: Watch your email for a week or so If you have over filtered your system you could be missing out on mail you do want to read. You can do this by opening your trash basket look before you dump the trash with the cat at night. (Dino)
